Living the Weller Life
– February 2021 –
A Year Older, A Year Bolder
“A year older, a year bolder!” Talk about a glorious way to ring in your next year of life! Members in Care Services had a sweet celebration this week. We had a lovely entertainer who performed their favorite songs on the piano. To close out the evening, our staff sang Happy Birthday and everyone enjoyed a delicious slice of cake!
Mardi Gras
Laissez Le Bon Temps Rouler! Our Members brought out their Golf Carts for a festive happy hour for Mardi Gras! Everyone was in the spirit of Mardi Gras as they showed up in green, purple, yellow clothes, beads, and masks! Attendees sipped on Hurricanes while enjoying delicious hors d’oeuvres. We love our outdoor happy hours and the weather was perfect for all our outdoor events.
Valentine’s Day
Last week we hosted a two-night event to honor Valentine’s Day here at Osprey Village! Night One featured our amazing Wellness Director, Kimberly, and her Fiancé, Gavin as entertainment. Members were so impressed with this dynamic duo! Night Two featured one of our Maintenance team, David! He had our Members on their feet dancing the night away! Both evenings, our Dining Services prepared an incredible menu for Members to enjoy! To close out the evenings, Members took photos with our large roses to commemorate this fun holiday celebration!
28 Day Step Challenge
During the month of January, we had a 28-day step challenge. They were all given a walking log on the 1st of the month to keep track of their steps, daily. Wellness Director, Kimberly encouraged Members to find new ways to get their step count up: park their golf cart further away, take the stairs instead of the elevator, etc. Last Friday, we had a ceremony to announce the 1st and 2nd place winner of our challenge, play a few games, and enjoy time with our neighbors. We are so proud of every one of our Members for pushing themselves this last month and for taking strides to better their health. Our Step Challenge winner, Bill walked a total of 376,069 steps! Our second-place winner, Mary, came in right behind him with 370,000 steps! Great job!!
Creative Hearts Project
This year we’re participating in a Creative HeARTs Project with the Nassau County Council on Aging and Community Hospice. They provided us with canvases that have a heart outline on them and our Members used their creativity to make them their own! There will be a virtual art display from the Council on Aging, then the art will travel to various destinations around Amelia Island.
Groundhog Day
Happy Groundhog Day from Osprey Village! This year, we wanted to do something a little different to honor good ole, Punxsutawney Phil! One of our members, JoAnn went to high school in Punxsutawney and knew the perfect way to honor the tradition. JoAnn dressed up as Phil’s little-known cousin, Phyllis who moved to Osprey Village! This morning, we gathered at “Gobbler’s Knob” to learn Phyllis’s weather prediction for 2021. She did see her shadow, just like her cousin, Phil so we’re stuck with another six weeks of Winter! Members who came out this morning to coax her out of her burrow enjoyed some warm coffee and groundhog donuts while playing some groundhog games!
