Congrats Winners!

The Silver Pen Writing Competition is an essay contest held for high school seniors to give them the opportunity to win cash for college. With today’s rising college tuition costs, there’s a need for alternative financial pathways outside of financial aid, and the Silver Pen Writing Competition is designed to help alleviate some of those burdens. At Osprey Village, our Members are proud to participate as organizers and judges of this competition as a unique way to give back to these graduating high schoolers.

On May 10th, Osprey Village awarded three cash prizes to essay applicants of the Silver Pen Writing Competition during a dinner ceremony. Each essay topic was chosen by Osprey Village Members who make up the judging panel, essays were based on the topic: ‘Do you feel like owning a cell phone has made a positive or negative impact on the world today? Do you think that cell phones have created an improvement in communication, or have they created more disconnect between people?’ This year’s $3,750 in prize money were awarded to:

1st Place Winner

Future Plans: Reagan is undecided but is looking forward to using her Silver Pen prize to contribute to her postgraduate studies.

2nd Place Winner

Future Plans: Sophie plans to attend NC State University or the University of South Florida in Tampa to study Psychology.

Future Plans: Kallie will be attending the Nursing Program at Jackson University to become a Nurse Practitioner.

“The Silver Pen Competition serves as a great opportunity for our Members to experience Osprey Village investing in the youth of our broader community,” says Osprey Village Executive Director, Matthew Barger. “For the recipients and participants, it allows for the potential monetary incentive to start off their education journey and to also experience the senior living industry as a possible career path.”

This competition has been hosted by Osprey Village’s parent company, The Maxwell Group, since 2012. The company has awarded over $386,000 to high school seniors to assist with their college costs. The goal of the competition is to bridge the communication gap between high school seniors and senior residents as well as give back to exceptional students within the local area. Each participant is required to submit a written essay with a minimum of 1,000 words.
